Yes, your license must be coded in order to legally drive with adaptive equipment.

Yes, your license must be coded in order to legally drive with adaptive equipment. The Endorsement is a "C" endorsement for a mechanical aid. In order to get a C Endorsement, you must complete a competency test at the RMV. This will test your ability to safely drive with adaptive equipment.

In order to schedule your test, you must go through the Medical Affairs Bureau of the RMV. To begin, have this form completed by your doctor. Once completed, make a copy for yourself and the immediately send the original along with a brief letter requesting a C endorsement to your driver's license to the Medical Affairs Bureau at the address on top of the form. The form cannot be more than 30 days old, so send it promptly after a doctor completes it.

The RMV will mail you back authorization paperwork that will allow you to schedule a competency test, which you can then schedule by calling the RMV at (857) 368-8020.
